The largest and most comprehensive pet products exhibition in Turkey, PETZOO Eurasia (hereinafter referred to as PETZOO), was held from October 9-12, 2024, at the Istanbul Expo Center. This professional event aims to strengthen international cooperation in the pet industry, especially in the Eurasian region, and promote export trade for local Turkish companies.
Selçuk Cetin, General Manager of Ulusal Fuarcılık, the organizer of PETZOO, stated, "The Turkish market used to heavily rely on imported products from foreign brands. Now, domestic products and services dominate the market and are even starting to gain recognition internationally. Nowadays, a variety of pet-related products and services can be produced in Turkey. In recent years, the number of pet stores and clinics in Turkey has increased significantly, and the range of products and services has expanded. I am confident that in the near future, Turkey will become a branded nation and a major player in the pet industry."
Commenting on the rapid growth and increasing market capacity of the pet product industry in recent years, Cetin added, "During the pandemic, many industries struggled. In contrast, the pet products sector was one of the fastest-growing, with an annual growth rate of around 15%. During the pandemic, this rate surged to 50% as people spent more time with their pets and focused more on their needs."
The global pet products industry has now become a massive $300 billion market. In Turkey, total consumer spending on pet products approaches $1 billion, with $250 million generated from exports. With the development of new markets, export revenues are expected to reach $500 million by the end of 2025.
Approximately one in ten households in Turkey owns a pet, treating them as family members. Additionally, street cats and dogs are a distinctive feature of Turkey, making products and services for them essential.
There are around 10,000 pet stores and 5,000 pet clinics nationwide, along with breeding facilities, shelters, and pet hotels. Nearly 150 companies export pet food to 105 countries and cat litter to 120 countries. The pet products and services industry in Turkey grows at an annual rate of about 8%, reflecting the market's potential and the industry's globalization.
Last year, PETZOO attracted around 50,000 domestic and international visitors.
This year, the exhibition showcased the latest products and services for various pets, including cats, dogs, and birds, covering the entire industry chain: food, raw materials, packaging products, accessories, grooming, veterinary supplies, cat litter, processing machinery, cleaning products, smart products, aquariums, and more. There was a significant presence of companies specializing in pet food and cat litter, highlighting Turkey's advantages and status in these sectors.
During the exhibition, seminars were held featuring industry experts who shared insights on pet care, the latest information, and various recommendations.
Pet grooming has rapidly developed in Turkey and is now considered a professional career. The number of institutions providing education in this field is steadily increasing, and professional groups have established associations. Anıl Muştu, Chairman of the Contemporary Cat and Dog Groomers Association, chaired the judging panel for the competition, with Ukrainian Pet Groomers Association members Irina Demchenko and Maxim Lavinetsky also participating as judges.
CIPS has maintained a long-term cooperative relationship with the organizers of the PETZOO. At the event, due to the strong international buyer network and influence of CIPS brand, we received greetings from professional visitors from various countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, Kuwait, Iran, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Greece, the United Kingdom, and others. These visitors included agents, clinics, chain stores, and online platforms. They expressed great anticipation for CIPS 2025 and wished it success.
Interviews conducted during the PETZOO 2024 revealed that most exhibitors were original manufacturers and brand owners, along with some importers and agents. Many companies have been trading with China for decades. They generally acknowledged the prominent status of Chinese pet companies, referring to them as "Giants" in the industry, and looked forward to exploring more experiences in the Chinese pet market at CIPS.
PETZOO is Turkey's first international exhibition for the pet industry, serving as the largest platform for this sector. It offers an excellent opportunity for companies seeking to export, develop, participate in the international market, establish global partnerships, and promote their brands and products. PETZOO 2025 will take place from October 8-11, 2025, at the Istanbul Expo Center.
