CIPS 2016: anniversary round closes on high note

The 20th round of the China International Pet Show (CIPS) in Guangzhou was a resounding success. 1,221 exhibitors, six percent more than in the previous year, showcased their products and innovations on a total display area that had grown by 7 percent to 40,624 m2, while 46,800 trade visitors streamed through the exhibition halls of the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou. The anniversary round of the CIPS has thus once again demonstrated the event’s decisive impact on the development of the pet market in Asia in general and China in particular.

Pet accessories and food for almost all common kinds of pets and resources for pet owners took centre-stage at the fair. A significant area was also devoted to all facets of aquariums. The CIPS is organised by the China Great Wall International Exhibition Company and co-hosted with NürnbergMesse. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the organisers stressed the trade fair's positive and dynamic development. Whereas previously the CIPS was often regarded as a procurement fair where international dealers and brand-name companies came into contact with Chinese producers of pet accessories and pet food, today it has also become a gateway for international brands to enter the fast growing Chinese and Asian pet market. Chinese companies also use the CIPS as a high-visibility platform for presenting their new products.

Asian meeting place with international pulling power

In 2016, 1,221 exhibitors came to Guangzhou, 23 percent of them from outside China. Exhibitors at the CIPS came from 24 countries including Italy, France, Germany, the USA, Portugal and Taiwan. The thematic focus on aquariums was also reflected in exhibitor numbers, with 36 percent of all exhibiting companies operating in this segment. The 46,800 trade visitors travelled from 78 different countries. Most were from China and other Asian countries, demonstrating that the CIPS is the key gathering for the sector in this region.

Supporting programme: the hot topic of brand building

A day before the show opened, the second GlobalPETS Forum Asia took place in Guangzhou. It was attended by around 100 professionals from the pet sector who exchanged know how with renowned speakers, including futurologists and CEOs from the pet segment, on the topic of brand building. During the trade fair as such there were also plenty of opportunities for professional dialogue, as the extensive supporting programme included specialist presentations, innovation shows and matchmaking events for manufacturers and purchasers. For the first time, CIPS also featured included a large-scale international ornamental fish breeding competition with prizes in ten categories. Apart from the fish, visitors could also admire the creativity of various aquaplaning projects.

The next China International Pet Show will take place in Shanghai from 16 to 19 November 2017 at the National Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 800 exhibitors have already registered for the 2017 event.
