CIPS 2025 x OFI: Announcing the 2nd Aquatic Industry Convention

The 29th China International Pet Show (CIPS 2025) will be held from November 13–16, 2025, at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou. Amidst the challenges and opportunities facing the aquatic industry, CIPS 2025 is once again partnering with the Ornamental Fish International (OFI) to co-host the 2nd Aquatic Industry Convention.

Under the theme “Potential Through Hard Times: Reform, Innovation, and Aquatic Development under Globalization and Regionalization,” this convention aims to explore the future of the industry with forward-looking insights, focusing on transformative reforms, technological innovation, and sustainable development to set new benchmarks for the global aquatic industry. Positioined as a premier platform for industry trends, strategic realignment, and transformation, the 2nd Aquatic Industry Development Convention will officially commence on November 13 at the CIPS. We warmly invite industry professionals worldwide to join this landmark event and collaborate in shaping the future of the aquatic industry!


Ornamental Fish International (OFI)

OFI is the peak international trade association representing the ornamental fish industry since its inception in 1980. They represent members from more than 30 countries around the world and include members from all sectors of the industry (producers, exporters, importers and retailers) as well as a number of NGO’s and other trade associations. OFI represents and promotes the interests of the industry through lobbying to various institutions around the world; as well as educating industry and hobbyists in responsible and sustainable Best Practices.

The 2nd Aquatic Industry Convention

The convention will feature local and international industry experts on some of the latest best practices and livelihood benefits of the industry. The conference will feature presentations and live discussion panels with the industry experts to discuss the topics presented, with audience participation encouraged.

  1. Mike Tuccinardi
    Director of Carolina Aquatics (USA). An experienced importer and industry consultant in the U.S. aquarium trade, Mr. Tuccinardi specializes in aquatic industry development and international sourcing.

  2. Professor Zaizhong Chen
    A renowned scholar at Shanghai Ocean University (China), Professor Chen is widely recognized as a leading authority in ornamental fish research. He is currently focused on the molecular genetics of color expression in angelfish (Pterophyllum) and koi carp (Cyprinus carpio), applying DNA analysis techniques to investigate genetic mechanisms. His research has drawn significant academic attention both in China and abroad.

  3. Professor Shane Willis
    President of Ornamental Fish International (OFI) and a globally respected expert in the ornamental fish industry. With over 20 years of experience in fish breeding and aquaculture technologies, Professor Willis also serves as a board member at an Australian aquatic training institute. He is committed to the sustainable development of the global ornamental fish trade and provides high-level technical consulting and talent development services for fish farming, aquaculture, and the broader pet industry. His leadership and contributions have earned him a strong reputation in the sector. 

  4. Frank de Goey
    Head of Ruinemans Aquarium (Netherlands). Ruinemans is a well-established wholesaler in the European aquatic industry, known for its scale and expertise in global fish trade.

The 1st Aquatic Industry Convention - On-site moment

There will be 4 sessions held over the 13th and 15th of November, each with a separate theme:
Session #1: “Global Data & Traditional Markets: Analysis of established markets"
Session #2: “Emerging Markets: Focus on rapidly growing regions”
Session #3: “New Conditions & Reforms: Examination of political shifts, environmental legislation, and sustainable business models”
Session #4: “Special Species & Innovations: Deep dives into profitable or iconic species (e.g., arowana), plus new technologies—carrying forward emphasis on innovation and fish health”

The conference will be free for all those attending CIPS 2025 and anyone with an interest in the aquarium industry or hobby is encouraged to attend.
